For many families, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It is where meals are shared, skills are learned, and connections are strengthened.
The kitchen at the Center for Families had a fire a few years ago and we have been feeding our families with many work-arounds since then, but it is not easy.
Examples of the challenges presented by the current kitchen:
- it takes over an hour to boil water on our stove
- we are cooking mainly in a convection oven
- we cannot use the space to teach our parents or children
Renovating this space is not a “nice to have” - it is a MUST.
First, it will help us feed families who rely on PathWays PA. For many of the mothers and children who come through our doors, access to nutritious meals can make an immediate difference in their ability to focus on rebuilding their lives. An updated kitchen will allow us to safely prepare all meals, host community gatherings, and ensure families have access to healthy food in a welcoming environment.
Second, the kitchen will become a hands-on learning space for mothers and children. Through cooking and nutrition workshops, families will learn how to prepare healthy, affordable meals at home. Children can participate alongside their parents, turning everyday cooking into opportunities for learning, confidence, and connection. For many mothers, these practical skills help strengthen household stability and support long-term independence.
The renovated kitchen will become a place where nourishment, learning, and opportunity come together.
We cannot meet this need without the support of people like you.
