Newtown Square Fire Company

A nonprofit organization

As one of the oldest continuously operating volunteer fire companies in the region, Newtown Square’s fire service reflects over 100 years of neighbor-to-neighbor support and community protection. Its long history connects early 20th-century township life to 21st-century emergency services, embodying a tradition of civic duty and volunteerism.

In 1916, all telephone cables connecting local wire stations were on poles and vulnerable to fire damage. Routes 3 and 252 was an important intersection of inter-office cables. A group of AT&T employees started the volunteer fire company to protect telephone cables and serve the community. Over a century later, volunteer members continue to operate the fire company, along with a small paid staff of firefighters to shorten our response times. In addition to Newtown and Willistown Townships, we assist neighboring communities in Delaware and Chester counties.

Firefighters and fire police respond to emergency calls for:

 building, brush, electrical, and other fires

      life-threatening medical emergencies

      fire alarms

 vehicle accidents, including victim extraction

      downed trees and wires

      pet rescues

Our community relies on us for:

      fire prevention education

      presence at events

      important celebrations

      holiday Santa drives

The cost of providing these services includes:

      emergency vehicle maintenance

      rescue apparatus

 fire station building maintenance and mortgage

      firefighter apparel and equipment

      paid firefighter salaries

      firefighter training

Our auxiliary and members spend many hours with fundraising:

      annual community fund drive

 biannual flea market and flower sales

      BINGO at the firehouse

      cooperating business donation events

Newtown Square Fire Company is able to operate due to the support of its community, neighbors and local retailers and business. The Fire Company receives approximately half of its operating costs from donations by the Township and other government and public grants it pursues.  In addition, the Newtown Township helps defray the cost of replacing emergency vehicles.

Each time we respond with a firetruck, the cost exceeds $1000.  Imagine how your local property taxes would increase without our selfless volunteers.

Please help fund our services with your 501(c)(3) tax-deductible contribution today. Thank you!
