Delco Skatepark Coalition

Our Mission:

The Delco Skatepark Coalition advocates and fundraises for all-wheels, adaptive, ADA-forward and inclusive skateparks in Delaware County.  Think of "skatepark" as a place where everyone can ride together -- skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, rollerskates, bikes and wheelchairs, to name a few.  The adaptive and ADA aspect of our mission is to ensure that ALL people, regardless of physical limitations or disabilities, both seen and unseen, can truly use the parks we fundraise for.  We like to say "ADA-forward" because we want to create parks that offer everyone ways to really use a park -- it's more than just accessibility to us.

How we started:  our team came together in 2020 as the pandemic showed just how challenging it was to keep kids active and engaged without the benefit of organized sports team.  Skating and other all-wheels activities, like riding scooters and rollerblading, allow kids to challenge themselves, get creative and have fun by themselves or with friends.  We realized that Delco needed more of this type of recreation!

Our current goal:  we are fundraising for the very first adaptive and all-wheels skatepark to be built in Upper Darby.  The park will be located at Observatory Field, just off West Chester Pike.  We are super psyched to be working with Upper Darby on this forward-thinking project, as it will be the very first skatepark that includes adaptive features in the Philadelphia region.
