For nearly 50 years, Senior Community Services (SCS) has been a lifeline for older adults in Delaware County offering the care, connection, and community that make it possible to age with dignity in their home and community. Founded in 1977 by a coalition of concerned citizens and Delaware County's Office of Services for the Aging, SCS began with one senior center and a mission: to promote independent and meaningful living for older adults.
Today, SCS touches the lives of approximately 20,000 older adults each year through four nationally-accredited senior centers and a wide range of home and community-based services. Whether it’s delivering over 130,500 meals to homebound seniors, offering opportunities for lifelong learning, easing the financial burden on caregivers, or coordinating care for our homebound neighbors, SCS enhances lives, preserves dignity, and provides choices to Delco's older adults every day.
With your support, SCS will continue to build a community that truly celebrates aging!
Helping Delaware County Seniors Thrive
SCS empowers Delco's older adults to live independently and with purpose through a wide range of impactful programs. In 2025 one in six Delaware County seniors participated in an SCS program or received an SCS service:
Senior Centers: 6,400 older adults made 65,470 visits to our four accredited centers in Folsom, Lansdowne, Darby Township, and Chester, each a lively hub for socializing, learning, and accessing vital resources.
Meals and Nutrition Support: From 130,574 home-delivered meals to 15,120 Congregate and To-Go meals, SCS ensures no senior goes hungry. Our dedicated delivery teams and five kitchens support food-insecure seniors with nutritious meals daily.
Care Management: 1,822 homebound seniors receive personalized support from our Care Managers.
Center for Life Long Learning: 743 older adults sharpened their intellects and connected with their peers through in-person and online classes in topics ranging from wellness to technology.
Aging at Home Program: 325 members of this program received valuable services like handyman help, door-thru-door transportation, yard work, vetted home repair referrals, and shopping assistance, thanks to 450+ hours donated by generous volunteers.
Caregiver Support Program: SCS supports 128 family caregivers with emotional support, financial reimbursements, and practical advice through our Caregiver Academy.
PA Medi Medicare Counseling: Over 2,700 seniors learned how to navigate their Medicare insurance, receiving one-on-one help, and in some instances helping seniors make decisions that save them more than $20,000 on annual healthcare costs.
Cognitive Stimulation Kits: 751 brain fitness activities took place throughout the county, engaging seniors in powerful reminisce therapy.
Volunteer Program: Nearly 350 volunteers donated over 37,613 hours to support our mission, by delivering meals, assisting with programs, and helping seniors stay connected.
