Murphy's Giving Market

A nonprofit organization

In March 2020, when the world shut down, Desireé LaMarr-Murphy opened up her back yard and set up a "market" to give free food to neighbors in need. "I thought it would last two weeks," she says. Now six years later, Murphy's Giving Market serves over 300 families each week from our location on West Chester Pike in Upper Darby. We provide fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy, grains, canned food, spices, and desserts. In 2025, we had 10,108 visits from 6,960 people in Upper Darby and surrounding communities. We also distribute clothes, shoes, hygiene products like diapers, condoms, and sanitary pads, and fresh flowers (a favorite). We house a mental health space, the Pettaway Foundation for new parents, and MILPA and Centro de Apoyo for immigrant support. Through our Rap's Athl-EATS program, we provide after-school snacks to student athletes at William Penn School District. Social workers from three other school districts regularly pick up food for families in need. We offer preventative health clinics, English Language classes, and connections to area resources. We are a multicultural, multiracial, multilingual team of volunteers where anyone facing food insecurity will be greeted as a friend and treated with dignity and respect.
 Thank you for your support!
