Why Choose MPFS?  Meaningful Learning, Purposeful Life

Founded in 1876. Media-Providence Friends School is a co-ed Quaker day school for students in age two through grade eight located in downtown Media, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

A close-knit learning community, MPFS offers students big views of the world ahead. Here, in small classes, under the caring tutelage of early childhood, elementary school, and adolescent experts who are passionate about teaching, students from diverse backgrounds and faiths grow up together, immersed in an academic environment that speaks to all the aspects of their beings: intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual.

Every day, students at MPFS engage in learning and inquiry processes in contexts that honor the Quaker values of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, Stewardship, and Service. As they make connections between lessons and life, learn to recognize their Inner Light to act upon their convictions, and grow into change-making members of their community, they discover that learning itself is a lifetime pursuit.

Values & Mission

Along with the fundamental belief in cultivating and recognizing the Inner Light in all people, the Quaker Testimonies serve as a practical foundation for learning at Media-Providence Friends School. MPFS embraces the values of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, Service, and Stewardship. These values, often called the SPICES, infuse curriculum in every grade and subject, and explicit instruction in their meaning and application occurs in Humanities and Advisory classes.

Our Values (Quaker Testimonies or SPICES)

Simplicity: Friends aim to exercise moderation where material possessions and use of Earth’s resources are concerned.

Peace: Quakers seek to eliminate conflicts that lead to violence and war.

Integrity: Friends are expected to be truthful in all interactions.

Community: Respect for every individual compels Friends to foster open, mutually caring, and enriching relationships.

Equality: Friends believe everyone is created equal, regardless of race, gender, faith, age, or class.

Service & Stewardship: Quakers practice their faith through active engagement to care for their community and positively change the world.

Friends Education & Philosophy

Meaningful Learning, Purposeful Life. At Media-Providence Friends School, we believe that a Friends education is preparation for the whole of life: the passionate development of intellectual, physical, spiritual, and social-emotional capacities. Media-Providence Friends School is committed to the Society of Friends' belief that each person has within them an Inner Light and a responsibility to themselves and their community to learn to access that Light to live a truthful and compassionate life. Our students learn to cultivate and share their own Light while recognizing the Light within others.

Since 1876, MPFS has been recognized for challenging academics and a whole-child approach to intellectual and moral development. Students are encouraged to respect the talents and perspectives of others in a cooperative search for knowledge. Our faculty are facilitators of the learning process, using dialogue, reflection, and inquiry as classroom learning tools. Students learn that all of life is sacred and resonates with meaning.

Rather than espousing a particular doctrine, teachers at MPFS use the Quaker Testimonies as a foundation for learning and aim to expose children to a worldview that will have a lasting impact on their lives, nurturing within them: the knowledge that the material world is not all there is to life; passion for the truth and concern for social justice; and confidence that they can make a difference.

Friends link intellectual, social, and spiritual growth, and at MPFS this translates to:
