On July 4, 2026, America turns 250.
Some of us remember 1976. The tall ships. The fireworks. The whole summer felt like a Phillies win — that electric, once-in-a-lifetime feeling where you knew you were watching something you'd tell your kids about. That was America's 200th birthday.
This is the 250th. And it happens once. There is no next time. Your grandkids will ask where you were.
Delaware County isn't just showing up to America's birthday — we're throwing our own party.
America250PADelco is Delaware County's official, nonpartisan initiative for America's 250th anniversary — the U.S. Semiquincentennial. Through December 2026, we'll support 100+ local community partners, festivals, history experiences, and the DelcoVolunteers civic service platform across all 49 Delco communities. Everyone is invited to our party.
And Delaware County has more reason than almost anywhere in this country to show up, give back, and throw the greatest birthday party this nation has ever seen. Our history is America's history.
John Morton, Delco's own, cast the deciding vote for independence.
The Battle of Brandywine was fought right here — the largest land battle of the American Revolution.
Abolitionists fighting for the 13th Amendment — Hello Upper Darby.
Cheyney University — America's first HBCU — is ours.
Suffragettes — yup, Dr. Anna Howard Shaw and Mildred Scott Olmsted in Rose Valley got us the 19th amendment ladies.
We got our own Rosie the Riveter working at Sun Ship Shipbuilding 1941-1945.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. formed his philosophy of nonviolent resistance at grad school in Chester.
America's Story, Right Here.
Our legacy of service goes back 250 years — its built into the fabric of our Delco community in our schools, libraires, parks — everywhere.
Right now, America is on the midst of the largest national service initiative in history — and Delco is answering the call through America250PADelco + DelcoVolunteers.
Delco Volunteers is our commitment to promote a common good that benefits everyone.
