Pennsylvania Resources Council

Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) is one of the oldest environmental non-profit organizations in the Commonwealth founded in 1939. We are the creators of the Litterbug and the slogan “Don’t Be a Litterbug”.

PRC has a long and accomplished history stewarding resources to prevent waste and conserve the environment. Our ability to make a difference depends on your generosity. Most of our funding comes from donations.  Please help us continue to strive for a Pennsylvania where nothing is wasted.

We have diverted more than 20 million pounds of materials, ensuring they are reused, recycled, or safely managed. We divert household hazardous waste, electronic waste, tires and other hard to recycle items, as well as glass and other regular recyclables, food waste, and reusable goods that we direct to other nonprofit organizations.

Educated more than 405,000 people of all ages to steward the environment

Manage 6 million+ gallons of stormwater annually

Engaged more than 4,000 businesses in waste reduction services

Along the way, we led the charge to enact Act 101 — the then groundbreaking legislation that established recycling across Pennsylvania.

Our current efforts include schools, businesses & community education programs, e-waste collection events and HHW events, zero waste services and watershed protection. Our vision is a PA where nothing is wasted.
