Media Chamber Chorale

A nonprofit organization

Media Chamber Chorale (MCC) was founded in 1984 by Deborah Stimson-Snow and a small group of amateur singers who wanted to sing together and engage their community in the discovery and appreciation of choral music. It has had only two Artistic Directors in this time, a testament to the group’s cohesiveness and commitment to inclusion, friendship, and musical excellence.

The MCC community includes its 35-45 adult volunteer singers, paid part-time Director, accompanist, and concert musicians, and our audiences in a variety of venues in Media, Swarthmore, Wallingford and Springfield in Delaware County. We provide amateur singers the opportunity to learn and perform a wide choral repertoire in the company of friends. We support the local musical ecosystem by paying our Artistic Director John Stroud and accompanist William Gatens, and by offering paying gigs to numerous professional musicians. We delight audiences by presenting both classical and contemporary music in engaging concerts and other informal settings that are welcoming and approachable. The Chorale has produced annual spring and winter/holiday concerts since 1992, and in recent years has performed at many regional venues such as the Park Avenue Community Center, Community Arts Center, and the Delaware County Summer Festival, reaching thousands of people. And a silver lining of the COVID-19 pandemic was the realization that our voices and concerts can reach people anywhere – not just in a traditional performance venue. Our online productions of Christmas Carol – A Musical Storybook and The Blind Man have attracted hundreds of views.

Media Chamber Chorale has existed for 40 years because we are committed to singing together, working together, and sharing the joyful experience of coming together through music.
