The GreenHorn Initiative, Inc

The GreenHorn Initiative, Inc is dedicated to promoting agriculture, agroforestry and sustainability skills through experiential learning programs,  community building events, urban farming and other vocational training.  The goal is to inspire kids of all ages to love and protect the environment and teach them fundamental skills like growing their own food,  caring for the landscape, tree-tending and the basics of using trade tools. We seek funding to help further our programmatic mission and host engaging events that get kids excited about learning. 

Your generous donations have helped us do the following in 2025 and 2026:

• Donate hundreds of plants to the Highland Park Elementary School after school Garden Club and provide hands on planting workshop (2025)

• Host the Upper Darby High School Photography program for Spring and Fall field trips which help bridge the gap between the creative arts and environmental action (2025)

• Donate hundreds of plants and seeds to the Upper Darby Senior Center's Ray of Sunshine Garden and provide growing tips for success consultation (2025)

• Hosted a community-based Mother's Day Celebration featuring 'Build Your Own Bouquet' workshop and complimentary refreshments and kids giveaways (2025)

• Donate several thousand pounds of fresh produce grown by us and our farm partners to Murphy's Giving Market in Upper Darby (2025)

• Host hands on farm workshops including: how to harvest cut flowers; how to arrange your own bouquet; crafting a floral pumpkin centerpiece (2025)

• Run a community driven Holiday Food and Toy Drive benefiting Murphy's Giving Market (2025)

• Hosted the inaugural Earth Day Celebration with key community partners focused on environmental stewardship and sustainably, including Upper Darby Environmental Advisory Committee, Tree Tenders of Upper Darby, Bird Club of Delaware County, UD Rain Gardens, PA Resource Council, and Solarize Delco (2026)

• Provided pollinator garden design workshops and donated 600 hundred seed packets, 25 bird houses, and free kids garden crafts to celebrate Earth Day (2026)

• Host the Upper Darby High School Photography program for Spring field trips which help bridge the gap between the creative arts and environmental action (2026)

Your donation will help us achieve and exceed our 2026 goals and activities including, but not limited to:

• Plant, seed and garden bed preparation for the Upper Darby Senior Center's Ray of Sunshine Garden

• Participation in the Upper Darby Senior Center's Nature Passport Program 

• Host 2026 Community Mother's  Day Celebration with Build Your Own Bouquet

• Provide the 4-H Club of Delaware County with a guided farm tour and hands on workshop

• Enhanced collaboration and donation strategy with Murphy's Giving Market 

• Flower farming growing,  harvesting and design workshops

•Host the Upper Darby High School Photography program for Fall field trips which help bridge the gap between the creative arts and environmental action

• Increased collaboration with Upper Darby School District and Upper Darby Township
