South Media Fire Company No. 1

Since 1922, South Media Fire Company has been answering the call from the corner of Washington Avenue and Leiper Street in Nether Providence Township. For more than a century, our all-volunteer company has protected the residents of Nether Providence, the Borough of Rose Valley, and neighboring communities whenever help is needed — whether that's a house fire in the middle of the night, an accident on Baltimore Pike, or an escort for Santa through town in December.

Our members are your friends and neighbors. By day, we're teachers, students, entrepreneurs, software engineers, scientists, and tradespeople, ranging in age from 14 to 80. When the alarm goes off, we leave the dinner table, the office, or a warm bed, and we show up — because that's what being South Media Strong means.

Being all-volunteer keeps us lean, but it doesn't make the work free. Turnout gear, apparatus, training, and the equipment that keeps our members safe all come at a real cost, and we depend on the community we serve to help us meet it.
