Building a Loving Community

The Major Food Pantry at St. James UCC in Havertown provides food and household support to build a loving community. Although the circumstances are different for everyone who comes to Food Pantry, they are welcomed with respect. They receive a bag filled with food, personal items, cleaning products, and sometimes pet items.  And a listening ear and laughter are always at the ready for people who enjoy connection.

A related food ministry, Sam's Kitchen, provides a fresh-cooked dinner to our neighbors at the Life Center of Delaware County every other month.

Generous Neighbors

Generous neighbors and local businesses supply in-kind donations. Church members and Friendly Faces Day Care tend a vegetable garden and donate fresh produce. Financial contributions help us fill the gaps on our shelves so we can stock people's own kitchens.

Pantry Operations

The food pantry is run by volunteers.

Hours for the Food Pantry at St. James UCC:

  • First Wednesday of each month, 9 am to noon and 5 to 7 pm
  • Additional times may be arranged with the church's administrative assistant.

Non-perishable in-kind donations may be dropped off at any time at the church: 135 Myrtle Ave., Havertown, next door to the historic Grange Estate.

Being a Light

Former pantry manager Lynn Major said, "Each and every person, whether someone needing help or someone offering help, is touched by the love and care from St. James. This ministry continues to be a light in the world.”
