ADVANCING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN CHESTER
Troubled by the poverty and educational inequality that exists in Chester, especially compared to neighboring communities in Delco, we - Dr. Elizabeth Doherty and Ms. Kathryn Redd - founded Chester ExChange four years ago to boost the lives of its children through education.
As an all-volunteer, grassroots organization, Chester ExChange provides an educational boost to school-aged children in Chester during out-of-school-time hours.
By focusing on offering an education enhancement and not just homework help, our two literacy programs address a critical need not met by other organizations or programs in Chester after school.
Reading Rewards assists early learners to become proficient readers by grade 4. Our volunteer educators meet with 1-3 students in grades 1-4 at the same reading level once a week in person. The educators focus on teaching the students’ decoding skills, the precursor to reading and reading comprehension.
Learning Plus provides academic guidance to students in grades K-12 as needed to achieve or surpass grade level standards. Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups, either in-person or virtually, with students in grades K-12 primarily on improving their reading or math skills.
Please partner with us & help Chester children to succeed academically.
• Volunteer as an educator or tutor so that we can serve more students.
• Pitch in with one of our events (e.g., Family Literacy Day, Math Fair).
• Offer administrative assistance to help us grow and become a sustainable organization.
• Donate. Your monetary contribution helps to make all that we do possible!
Thank you!
